The Community Kitchen

The Community Fridge & Larder was set up to encourage the local community to see that good food can be eaten and shared - instead of being thrown into landfill.

The aim of the Enterprise is to remove the stigma associated with receiving free food.

Open to everyone, the Community Fridge and Larder not only reduces the amount of food going to waste, but it helps feed local people and gives access to healthy food options.

A small, but growing team of enthusiastic volunteers help run the fridge, keep it tidy & collect food donations from local businesses.

Our Volunteers - CEPL12 Community Fridge

The Community Fridge and Larder isn’t about charity, it is about making use of food that would otherwise go in the bin.

We are supported by Lidl, Waitrose, Co op and local food businesses, who all donate their surplus fresh foods. Through FareShare Go, and the food banks we have had access to additional ambient foods.

From November 2020 - October 2021, we distributed approximately 15 tonnes of surplus food! We are open 3 days a week and have around 70 visitors to the fridge every day.

In January 2021 we started using our Community Transport to take the Community Fridge out into the PL12 Community. As a result, we have also delivered food parcels to struggling families and worked with the Foodbank to deliver meals to the homeless.
