The Community Kitchen

A warm welcome always awaits you at 8 Fore Street Saltash in the CEPL12 Community Kitchen. We opened this in 2022 to create a local centre for wellbeing, and we are developing it energetically just now. Please drop in to meet us, and share your ideas and suggestions.

The Community Kitchen provides a home firstly for the Community Fridge & Larder as well as the weekly Dementia Lunch.

These Enterprises operate at the Kitchen on specific days and times. At other times, space can be booked by or for other community groups and projects.

As a “kitchen” it is naturally very food oriented. All the food available and used is surplus to the requirements of local shops and businesses - it is given free and collected and presented by our volunteers. That food would otherwise have gone to waste. It is our mission to use this food imaginatively for the wellbeing of people who need it, or for community groups that can use it in the course of their activities there.

With volunteer helpers and community activities at the heart of this Enterprise, we aim to make it self-sustaining over time.

The role and contribution of the Community Kitchen is still emerging as we build the management and volunteer teams. It is already a much appreciated support act to other Enterprises and groups.  “Drop in” by individuals who may need a safe environment in which to relax and meet people is also very important.

The Community Kitchen itself aims to be a cosy destination for community interaction - we can already see how its environment enables cooperation between individuals and groups, and stimulates new ideas and initiatives for helping people. It is at its heart an “enabler”, emphasising support for “life skills” learning for everyone involved.

The facility is always open at the same time as the Fridge & Larder - so there will be a welcome awaiting you, not to mention a cuppa and a bite to eat. You may also spot information about how to meet new people or learn new skills.

We have already started special fundraising events on site, most recently for Ukrainian people on their Independence Day, and we expect these to become regular. The Kitchen can provide excellent facilities and a good supply of healthy food.

Another aim of our work is to bring more people into Fore Street so that it can continue to thrive. This is pivotal to our aim of making Saltash and the surrounding area an even better place to live, work and enjoy.
