Community Transport
Community Transport
Community Transport within PL12 has been active for over 10 years. It was created to fill gaps in the availability of transport in and around the town, especially for individual people with no vehicle of their own, unable to walk to bus stops, and so at risk of social isolation. Our buses are also available to community groups to support their plans and activities, whether for youth, disability or old age.
“Hopper” buses have therefore become a regular sight around Saltash and surrounding villages, provided entirely by voluntary effort and volunteer drivers. This means our service is always affordable, and tailored to community needs. This is underpinned by our network of local partner organisations, schools, clubs and businesses. We are proud to be able to be flexible and creative in how we respond to needs drawn to our attention - everything from regular shopping and leisure trips, to shuttle services to support major events in the town like the May Fair and Regatta, and to providing a service to distant vaccination centres during the recent pandemic.
The Community Transport Enterprise is staffed by volunteer drivers who are fully trained. There is also ongoing training and support, with regular follow up including driving and safety procedures. All our drivers are expected to be professional, courteous and responsive to the individual needs of all passengers.
Our buses are serviced and maintained to the necessarily high standard by a local garage, and cleaned and sanitised regularly to meet all government regulations and guidelines regarding Covid 19.
Our main bus has a tail lift to enable us to accommodate wheelchairs and any passengers who may find steps are an issue. We can also accommodate fixed and collapsible walking aids if required to ensure the safety and mobility of our passengers on all our trips (please give details when booking to ensure space allocation can be determined).
Make bookings directly with our Hub at 4 Fore Street. (We hope this will soon be possible online too). The future for this valuable community facility will grow with the support of the community it serves. The motto “Together we can, together we do!” is never more true than in our transport service.
