Digital Inclusion

Community Enterprises PL12 (CEPL12) Digital Inclusion Enterprise

Digital Inclusion

Our world is becoming increasingly 'online' & tech driven. This has only accelerated even further due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Our Digital inclusion Enterprise is about ensuring the benefits of the internet and digital technologies are available to everyone.

Digital inclusion isn’t only about whether people can access the internet but also about their ability to use it safely.

Getting online is usually life-enhancing and it can be life-changing.

Learn how to use technology safely with Community Enterprises PL12 Digital Inclusion Classes

Some sections of the population are more likely to be digitally excluded than others.

These are:

  • older people

  • people in lower income groups

  • people without a job

  • people in social housing

  • people with disabilities

  • people with fewer educational qualifications

  • people living in rural areas

  • homeless people

The aims of Digital Inclusion are;

Firstly to reach out to anyone that feels digitally excluded, primarily the elderly, in the PL12 area to teach them the basic skills to get online and use the internet safely to order shopping, prescriptions or even get an appointment to speak with the doctor.

Secondly, we aim to set up an internet café within one of our buildings where we can train people and give access to equipment to those who, for whatever reason, have limited or no access to equipment and connectivity.

Thirdly we would like to work alongside Citizens Advice and other agencies giving access to those seeking jobs or trying to claim allowances.

Finally, we would aim to help people find connectivity and equipment to make them more self-sufficient. We aim to offer an IT equipment loan system whereby users could become “surfers” without any initial expenditure outlay.

To achieve all of this we need trainers, and IT equipment. We can arrange free training via Cornwall Council for those who would like to help us with our training program. We have a small budget with which we can provide some suitable hardware but would welcome donations of IT equipment.
