April Newsletter

Dear Community Volunteers, members and supporters

As May begins, we take a moment to reflect on the lively month we've had at Community Enterprise PL12, filled with events and initiatives that embody the spirit of our community. Here's a recap of what's been unfolding:

Exploring Saltash's Heart:

Throughout April, our Community Shop at 4 Fore Street has been bustling with activity. From delightful Saltash themed cards to tea towels, mugs, and placemats, we've continued to offer an array of local treasures. We're thrilled to also announce the arrival of one of our newest stockists, Tiny Treasures, to our gift shop! Come in and discover their new collection of home décor and gifts.

Exciting Workshops at the Community Kitchen:

Our Community Kitchen at 8 Fore Street has been a hub of creativity! We introduced a new workshop set to take place in May, alongside hosting a Air Dry Clay 2 day Workshop, where participants will have the chance to unleash their creativity and craft beautiful clay pieces. We're delighted to provide spaces where our community can gather to learn, create, and connect.

Celebrating Milestones:

April marked a significant milestone for our Dementia Voice Café, which celebrated its 8th anniversary! We had a wonderful time commemorating this achievement! This cherished community group, part of Community Enterprises PL12, continues to offer invaluable support and companionship to those impacted by dementia. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey and contributed to its success.

Supporting Wellness:

We were privileged to host the Saltash Stroke Group on May 3rd at the Community Kitchen. This event, open to anyone affected by stroke, provided a nurturing environment for individuals to come together, share experiences, and receive support.

Weekly Blood Pressure Checks:

We are delighted to announce that we are now offering free blood pressure checks every Friday at the Community Kitchen on Fore Street, Saltash. This initiative, led by Charity Gladstone MBE, aims to promote health and well-being within our community. Charity Gladstone MBE, is an advanced nurse practitioner in Cornwall. Charity's dedication to nursing excellence was recently recognised when she was awarded an MBE for her outstanding services to nursing in January 2024. Her commitment to healthcare was further celebrated when she was invited to attend King Charles’ 75th birthday celebrations at Buckingham Palace last November, in acknowledgment of the invaluable contributions made by internationally educated nurses, midwives, and the Windrush generation to the NHS.

With her dedication to public health, Charity Gladstone ensures that this service is accessible to all, providing valuable insights and support to individuals on their wellness journey. Drop by and take advantage of this valuable service led by Charity Gladstone and her team!

We were delighted that Councillor Richard Bickford, Mayor of Saltash, attended to have his blood pressure checked and to show his support for the initiative. His presence highlights the importance of community leaders promoting health awareness and access to healthcare services.

Happy World Earth Day:

Last month saw World Earth Day globally and it gave us a chance to highlight the remarkable efforts of our community to safeguard and nurture it. Through initiatives like our Fridge & Larder and Kitchen, we are confronting food waste head-on by sharing food with everyone, regardless of circumstances. Every meal shared, or bag of food given, is a step towards a more sustainable future for all.

As we bid farewell to April, let's carry the spirit of community, creativity, and compassion into the months ahead. Thank you for being an integral part of our journey at Community Enterprise PL12.

Once again, thank you to each and every one of you for your unwavering support and commitment to Community Enterprises PL12. Together, we are making a real difference in our community, and we look forward to many more successes in the future.

Warm regards,

Jo Grail
